Lady Bison Win Fifth Straight

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Howard scored eight runs in the sixth inning for an 8-5 come from behind win over Delaware State Tuesday afternoon at Banneker Stadium.  The Bison went on to a 6-1 victory in the second game of its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader with the Hornets.

DSU took an early 1-0 lead in the first contest before adding on four runs in the top of the sixth.

Trailing 5-0 at the bottom of the seventh, freshman Rebecca Kirshner got things going for HU with a lead off single.

Nicole Saez's two run homer plated Kirshner and closed Howard within 5-2.

Sondra Jones' sac bunt put Aisha Ledet and Morgan Plowden in scoring position; both were plated by Trina Kindred, who reached first on a fielding error by Hornet shortstop Courtney Taylor.

The Lady Bison scored five more runs that inning for the 8-5 lead.

Junior Christina McCoy improved to 5-5 with the win while Casey Beighley got the loss for DSU.

Emily Johnson got the win on the mound for HU in the nightcap, giving up five runs in seven innnings of action. Johnson was also dominant on the offensive end and blasted a three-run homerun in the first inning, giving Howard a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Bison outhit the Hornets 12-5 in the second decision.
