SEVERN, MD. - Christina McCoy pitched a complete game shutout as Howard defeated Coppin State, 4-0, en route to its first conference win of the year.
McCoy gave up two hits in seven innings of work while striking out six batters.
Howard got their bats going in the fifth inning on a McCoy single. The California native later advanced to second on a wild pitch and Lorae Robinson followed that with a left field single. Robinson and Morgan Plowden, who pitch ran for McCoy, each stole a base and put themselves into scoring position before Courtney Young's single plated both of them.
The Bison added two more runs in the sixth after Aisha Ledet homered, sending Ciera Gordon across the plate. Gordon, who got on base with two outs in the inning, singled down the right field line before Ledet's RBI sent her home.
The second match against the Lady Eagles was not as successful as HU fell 3-1. The Lady Bison outslugged Coppin 5-4 but HU managed just one run, a solo HR from Young in the top third.
