Softball Defeats Indiana State; Splits on Day Two

WOODSTOCK, GA. - Howard picked up its fourth win of the season with a 6-4 victory over Indiana State on day two of the Buzz Classic in Woodstock, Ga. The Lady Bison were later edged 3-2 in its final matchup of the day against Georgia State.
Freshman Ciera Gordon was 2-for-4 against the Sycamores with four RBI. Classmate Rebecca Kirshner was perfect at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 and three other Bison picked up one hit apiece.
Indiana State scored in the top third before HU answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. The Bison added two more runs in the fourth and another two in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.
The Sycamores scored three more runs in the seventh to make a game out of it, but Howard did not need the bottom of the inning to put away the Sycamores.
Sophomore Emily Johnson got the win for HU while Stephanie Jonson picked up the loss for Indiana State.
Against Georgia State, Howard (4-11) managed a run in the second and fourth innings, but the Panthers scored three times in the bottom of the sixth for a slim 3-2 lead.
Nicole Saez finished 3-for-3 in the loss. Gordon and Carly Martin added two hits apiece while Courtney Young contributed one hit and one run.
Martin got the loss on the mound for Howard.
The Bison wrap up play at the Buzz Classic on Sunday with a noon matchup against Mercer.
