UMBC Takes Two from Howard in Softball Action

Game 1 vs. UMBC
Game 2 vs. UMBC

BALTIMORE, MD. - UMBC took down Howard, 12-6 and 5-4, in a pair of non-conference softball matchups in Baltimore, Md.

UMBC held a slim 4-3 in the first game before opening up the gates in the bottom third. The Retrievers scored seven runs on three hits, and also capitalized on a pair of Bison errors.

Howard rebounded and added two runs in the fifth inning.  Jennifer Bien-Aime's sac fly scored Morgan Plowden and Tierra Maxwell singled to plate Rebecca Kirshner.

Kirshner, Nicole Saez and Courtney Young each finished with two hits in game one. Young added a home run and three RBI.

Game two was a tight matchup with neither team scoring in the first four innings. UMBC got on board in the bottom fourth when Page scored on a Mason single. Weller then homered to center field, plating three runs for the Retrievers.

UMBC added an insurance run in the sixth inning and that is all they would need. Howard fought back in the seventh, but scored just four runs and came within one run of the 5-4 Retriever lead.

The Bison will look to rebound at the Maryland Invitational this weekend.
