HU Softball Grabs One from Eagles
Baltimore, Maryland - The Lady bison lost a close game to Coppin State 2-1, in a game that saw very little offensive production.
In the first game of a double-header, the Eagles (13-14) struck first in the bottom of the top frame, scoring on a fielder's choice RBI by centerfielder Emily DeJesus.
Pitcher Dominique Lawrence gave up seven hits in the game. Eagles pitcher Paige Arnold produced two of those hits and also stole home in the third that would prove to be the winning score.
Howard produced its only run of the game in the fifth with RBI single by third-basemen Brittany Barker to score catcher Jenny Ly.
In the second game, the Lady Bison struck first but couldn't hold onto the lead, with the Eagles winning in the same fashion, 2-1.
Centerfielder Lorae Robinson singled in the first to lead it off for the Bison (4-22), eventually scoring on a sacrifice RBI by shortstop Rebecca Kirshner, producing their first and only run.
But in the same inning, Coppin State (14-14) produced two runs off three hits but got some help from the Bison with two errors.
Coppin St. Second-baseman Josker singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch and eventually scored on a passed ball. While, designated hitter Denlinger doubled and scored on a single by first-baseman Whaley.
The low score was not a result of lack of hitting in this game with Howard hitting in every inning but was unable to punch in runs.
Day Two
Pitcher Dominique Lawrence held the ladies of Coppin State to just three hits on the game, ending the eagles seven game win streak.
Lawrence also struck out eight and went 3-4 hitting.

The Bison (5-22) scored first on two errors by Coppin State as Lawrence singled to score the run.
Trying to mount a comeback, the Eagles rallied in the third led by Arnold with a double. Emily DeJesus walked as Arnold advanced to third on a passed ball. They both scored on a well-executed double steal as Dejesus stole second and Arnold taking home, tying the score at 1 run all.
Howard took the lead back and for good in the fourth with Andascha Moore-Pryor singling in Trina Kindred.
The lead was opened up with a Jenny Ly sacrifice fly to score Lorae Robinson in the top of the fourth.
