SPARTANBURG, S.C. (www.howard-bison.com) - February 25 – The Howard University softball team wrapped up the Coke Zero Spartan Classic hosted by the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg, finishing with a 0-3 record with losses to USC Upstate (18-0), Presbyterian (12-1) and Kentucky (14-0) Feb. 23-24 in Spartanburg, S.C., at Cyrill Stadium.
During game one of the weekend the Lady Bison took on the host squad USC Spartanburg, where they struggled offensively being shut out by the Spartans 18-0 in a five-inning contest. AlAsia Davis was the only student-athlete to attain a hit during the game.
HU's Ashley Turner (1-2) took home the loss during the tournament opening game, giving up seven hits, 10 runs, eight earned runs, walking two Spartans and not earning a single strike out.
Game two consisted of four Howard hits, one run and one RBI. Turner led the HU in hits with three, while Inaya Norman reached homeplate for the Lady Bison and Davis tallied the one RBI.
Tuner (2-4) tallied another loss, giving up four hits, five runs, five earned runs, one homerun and walking on USC batter.
During the final game of the weekend Howard took on Kentucky, where they suffered another five-inning shutout with a score of 14-0. Abrianna Ford notched the only hit for Howard.
In five innings from the mound, Emily Krantz (1-1) took the loss, giving up eight hits, 14 runs, 12 earned runs, five walks and five strikeouts.
Howard drops to 3-6 on the season.
HU heads to Birmingham, Ala., for the Tiny Laster HBCU Classic (SWAC v. MEAC) on March 2-3, hosted Alabama A&M in Shea Brothers Stadium.
