WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard swimming and diving team fell to American Friday afternoon in a meet hosted the Bison in Burr Gymnasium. The women's squad was downed 119-80 while the men dropped a 108-89 decision.

The women's team took home two first place finishes with Nzingha Murphy winning the 100 yard freestyle in 53.63 and Khalilah Robinson taking first in the 50 yard freestyle (25.59). 

The Bison medley teams were also victorious as 200 yard medley relay team of Aminah Murphy, Khalilah Robinson, Ashley Hairston and Nzingha Murphy took first in 1:52.78 while the 200 yard freestyle squad (Allyssa Armstrong, Uchechukwuka Monu, Jessica Freeland, Brittany Smith) won in 1:44.79.

Aminah Murphy was the runner up in the 100 yard butterfly (1:03.21) and Nzingha Murphy was second in the 200 yard freestyle in 2:01.04. Monu (2:07.64) and Hairston (2:09.73) were fourth and sixth in the same event. Polo Edwards took second in the 1000 yard freestyle in 11:19.81 and was third in the 500 yard freestyle (5:32.21).

Allyssa Armstrong took third in the 100 yard backstroke (1:06.37) and Monu was not far behind with her fifth place finish in 1:09.24. The Lady Bison had two of its own finish in the top five in the 200 yard IM as Aminah Murphy (2:21.91) took third and Jessica Freeland (2:25.25) took fifth. Robinson was third in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:11.70.

Miguel Orellana took home a pair of first place finishes for the men after winning the 200 yard IM (1:58.39) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:48.61). Jules Graham's first place finish in the 100 yard butterfly (53.56) and Charles Canady's top finish in the 100 yard breastroke (1:02.44) were also highlights for the men's squad.

MacIntyre (59.30) took third in the 100 yard butterfly and Justin Morrison (1:04.51) finished sixth in the same event. Isaiah Allen paced a 2-4-5 finish for the Bison in the 100 yard freestyle with Allen finishing as the runner up in 49.79. Tyrone Dash (54.30) and James Washingotn (1:02.60) took fourth and fifth, respectively.

Allen also paced Howard in the 200 yard freestyle and took second in that event in 1:49.74. MacIntyre was third in 1:53.87 and Canady took fifth in 1:57.46. Graham was the runner up in the 50 yard freestyle (22.49) while Dash (23.39) and Washington (27.83) were fifth and sixth.

The men's 200 yard medley relay team of Orellana, Canady, Graham and Allen won its event in 1:40.03 and the 200 yard freestyle relay squad (Graham, Orellana, Canady, Allen) took second in 1:38.29.

Both teams are off for a few weeks before returning to action on Jan. 13 at a duel meet against Georgia Tech and George Washington.
