TOWSON, MD. - Miguel Orellana and Aminah Murphy each picked up first place finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle and the 50 yard freestyle, respectively, as the Howard swim teams opened its season with a loss at Towson on Saturday. The men's squad fell by the score of 146-51 while the women were downed 143-59.

Orellana won his event in 10:12.87 while Murphy picked up her first place win in 25.33. The women saw good performances from Polo Edwards, who took second in the 1000 yard freestyle in 11:2.76 and Uchechukwuka Monu, who finished the 200 yard freestyle in 2:15.52 and had a mark of 2:30.73 in the 200 yard backstroke.

Edwards finished the 500 yard freestyle in 5:33.07, good for second place, while Nzinga Murphy was third in 5:49.

Aminah Murphy led a 2-3-4 finish for the Lady Bison in the 100 yard freestyle. Murphy paced Howard with her second place mark in 55.01 while Ashley Hairston and Brittany Smith were third and fourth in 58.70 and 1:03.94, respectively.

Smith was fourth in the 50 yard freestyle in 28:50 while teammate Khalilah Robinson was third in 25.82.

Nzinga Murphy and Hairston were second and third, respectively, in the 200 yard freestyle. Murphy finished the event in 2:02.91 while Hairston finished with a 2:11.19 mark.

Isaiah Allen and James Washington had second and third places finishes for the men in the same event. Allen had a mark of 1:53.06 while Washington finished in 2:24.21.

Mark Peyton was second in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:19.78 and Kevin MacIntyre was the runner-up in the 200 yard backstroke in 2:21.64.

Tyrone Dash paced the Howard men to a 2-3-4 finish in the 50 yard freestyle. The junior was second in 23.55 while Justin Morrison and Omar McKenzie were third and fourth with marks of 26.67 and 27.94, respectively.

Allen completed the 100 yard freestyle in 50.78, good for fourth overall, while Dash grabbed one point for the Bison team standings with his finish in 55.92.

Charles Canady and McKenzie were second and third, respectively, in the 200 yard breastroke and Orellana took second in the 500 yard freestyle (4:55.51).

Howard returns to action on October 13 at the NCAT Relay Meet.
