Lady Bison Split at Duel Meet; Defeats NJIT for First Win of the Season

EMMITSBURG, MD. - The Howard women's swim team went 1-1 at a duel meet featuring Mount St. Mary's and NJIT on Nov. 3 at Emmitsburg, Md. The Mount edged HU 55-40 but Howard was successful against Highlanders, overwhelming NJIT 81-5.

Junior Nzingha Murphy won two events for the Lady Bison. The Atlanta native took first in the 50 meter free in 27.92 and won the 100 meter free after finishing in 1:00.26.

Khalilah Robinson took home an individual title in the 100 meter breast (1:21.48) while Jessica Freeland took fourth in the same event in 1:28.24.

The 400 meter free relay team (Uchechukwuka Monu, Allyssa Armstrong, Jessica Freeland and Aminah Murphy) took first in 4:16.11 while the 400 meter medley (Nzingha Murphy, Khalilah Robinson, Aminah Murphy, Ashley Hairston) crossed the line in 4:46.85, good for second place.

Polo Edwards took home a pair of second place finishes in the 800 meter free (9:57.25) and the 400 meter free (4:54.92). Aminah Murphy (1:12.24) and Hairston (1:13.33) were second and third, respectively, in the 100 meter fly while Armstrong (1:14.05) and Monu (1:18.13) took third and fourth in the 100 meter backstroke.

The Lady Bison are off for two weeks, next returning to action on Nov. 16-18 at the Davidson Invitational in Davidson, N.C.
