LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Howard swim teams defeated NJIT in a duel meet on Saturday in Loudonville, N.Y. The men's squad took down the Highlanders 103-73 while the women's team defeated NJIT 56-8.

The Lady Bison fell to host Siena, 68-24 in its other matchup.

Nzingha Murphy (Atlanta, Ga./North Atlanta) paced the women's squad with two first-place finishes in the 50 yard (25.09) and 500 yard (5:41.62) freestyles.

Polo Edwards (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) was second in the 200 yard freestyle in 2:03.77. Rochelle Smith (Oakland, Calif./Holy Names) took fourth in the same event in 2:31.39. Edwards went on to take third in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:09.76.

Aminah Murphy (Atlanta, Ga./North Atlanta) was the runner up in the 200 yard individual medley (2:22.57) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:04.07).

The Bison saw third and fourth place finishes from Uche Monu (Lagos, Nigeria/Queens College Yaba) and Smith, respectively, in the 100  yard freestyle.

Monique Major also saw action for HU, placing fourth in the 50 yard freestyle (30.00) and second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:24.39).

On the men's side, Miguel Orellana (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends) set a new school mark in the 1650 yard freestyle after finishing in 17:02.84. Orellana later took first in the 100 yard freestyle in 48.95.

Damjan Strbac (Zagreb, Croatia/XIII Gimnazija) won the 200 yard freestyle (1:53.45) and led a 1-3-4 finish for HU in the event. Omar McKenzie (Nassau, Bahamas/St. John's College) was third and Blair Matthews (Chicago, Ill./Mt. Carmel) was fourth in 2:45.45. 

Jules Graham (Diego Martin, Trinidad/Fatima College) won the 50 yard freestyle and Justin Morrison (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville) was second in 24.78. Che Larracuente finished fifth in 27.28.

Howard saw a 1-3-4 finish in the 200 yard IM. Steven Lott (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) won in 2:14.95 while James Washington (Detroit, Mich./MLK) and McKenzie placed third and fourth, respectively.

Lott also won the 100 yard butterfly in 57.43 while Kevin MacIntyre (St. James, Trinidad/Fatima College) took first in the 100 yard backstroke (1:06.75).

The men's 400 yard medley (Steven Lott, Jules Graham, Damjan Strbac and Julian Mosley) won in 4:01.38 and 200 yard medley squad (Kevin MacIntyre, Orellana, Blair Matthews, James Washington) also took gold in 1:37.31.

Howard is off for a few weeks before returning to action on Jan. 17 in a duel meet against North Carolina A&T and Catawba in Greensboro, N.C.
