Paul VanLieShout Named Head Swimming Coach at Howard

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Paul VanLieShout has been named the head men's and women's swimming & diving coach at Howard University, Director of Athletics Dwight Datcher announced today.

VanLieShout comes to Howard with many years of experience at various levels of competition. Prior to HU, he was the Head Swim Coach and Aquatic Director at nearby Catholic University for four years. VanLieShout was named the conference men's coach of the year in 2005 and his teams received academic all-american honors by the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) each year under his tutelage.

"We are excited to welcome Paul into the Howard family," said Datcher. "He has a deal of experience and we expect to see much success with his leadership."

VanLieShout also has experience coaching on the international level. He was the Head Coach for the Egyptian National team in 2000-01 and led several athletes to 2001 World Championships, World University Games and Mediterranean Games. 

He was also the Head Coach/Aquatic Director at Carroll College (Waukesha, Wisc.) and the assistant women's coach at the University of Wisconsin.

VanLieShout graduated with a bachelor's degree in educational theory from the University of Wisconsin in 1987. He is certified by USA Swimming, the national governing body for swimming in the United States, and is a member of the College Swim Coaches Athletic Association.

Howard hosts North Carolina A&T and Gardner Webb on Nov. 1 at Burr Gymnasium at 10 am.
