ATHENS, GA. - The men's 800 yard freestyle relay team (Jules Graham, Miguel Orellana, Damjan Strbac, Isaiah Allen) won a bronze medal at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championship in Athens, Ga. The record-setting weekend saw 10 new school marks set.
The 800 yard freestyle squad clocked in at 6:59.68, breaking the old Howard record by nearly 20 seconds.
Orellana also set a new school mark in the 200 yard freestyle (1:14.65) and the women's 800 yard relay team (Nzingha Murphy, Aminah Murphy, Polo Edwards, Uche Monu) broke an HU record after finishing their event in 8:06.85.
Jules Graham set a new record in the 50 yard freestyle (46.29) while Nzingha Murphy shattered the old HU mark in the 50 yard freestyle on the women's side after finishing in 52.57.
The men's and women's 400 freestyle relay squads set new records on the final day of competition. Graham, Orellana, Strbac and Allen finished in 3:06.44 while Nzingha Murphy, Aminah Murphy, Polo Edwards and Monu teamed up to finish their event in 3:36.04.
Day one of the championship saw three school records shattered.
Nzingha Murphy set a new Howard record in the 50 yard freestyle. The senior finished in 23.99 in the preliminary round and went on to take eighth in the finals.
Orellana set a new HU mark in the 200 yard IM, finishing his event in 1:55.71.
The 400 yard medley relay team (Jules Graham, Shaun Armstrong, Orellana, Isaiah Allen) set a new school mark with its fourth place finish in 3:33.42.
Howard placed fourth overall on the men's side 279 points while the women finished were eighth with 122 points.
HU wrapped up its season with 13 new school marks set in 2008-09.
