Swim Teams Show Well at HBCU Championships

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The HBCU Championships saw HU victorious in a plethora of events. The championship, which also included North Carolina A&T and Florida A&M, was held in Burr Gymnasium on Feb. 7.
Howard's relay teams came out on top in the men's 200 yard medley relay with the first squad coming in at 1:40:20 and the second finishing in 1:57:49.
In the women's 1000 yard freestyle, junior Polo Edwards
triumphed over Aasiya Townsell (NC A&T) with a time of
11:35:37. In the men's 1000 yard freestyle, sophomore Justin
Morrison was unopposed and finished with a time of 12:49:97.
Senior Nzingha Murphy took first in the women's 200 yard freestyle
in 2:04:96, beating competitors from both North Carolina A&T
and Florida A&M. Sophomore Charles Canady also finished first
in the men's 200 yard freestyle (1:56:37) after downing
competitors from North Carolina A&T and Florida A&M.
Aminah Murphy and Miguel Orellana finished first in the women's and
men's 50 yard freestyle, respectively. Senior Shaun Armstrong
finished first in the men's 200 yard IM with a time of 2:06:47 and
freshman Monique Major won gold in the women's 100 yard
butterfly.
The men's and women's squads both prevailed in the 100 yard
freestyle. Damjan Strbac also won in the men's 100 yard
backstroke.
