Swimming and Diving Drops Home Meet

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard swimming and diving teams fell to Gardner Webb and North Carolina A&T in a duel meet Saturday morning in Washington, D.C. The Bison men were downed 118-80 by Gardner Webb while the women's squad fell 53-42 to the Aggies and 64-31 to the Runnin Bulldogs.

Miguel Orellana won the men's 200 yard freestyle in 1:45.90 while Isaiah Allen (1:51.81) and Justin Morrison (2:11.38) took fourth and sixth in the same event, respectively. Orellana later took first in the 500 yard freestyle (4:54.20) with Allen placing third in the same event in 5:20.04. 

Damjan Strbac took first in the 50 yard freestyle in 22.40. Blair Matthews was fourth in 24.83 and James Washington was fifth in 26.86.

Jules Graham was the runner up in the 200 yard IM after finishing in 2:04.62. Kevin MacIntyre (2:18.22) and Omar McKenzie (2:29.72) also competed for HU in the same event. Graham also placed second in the 100 yard butterfly in 53.39.

Strbac (49.31) and Julian Mosley (55.40) took first and second, respectively, in the 100 yard freestyle while Steven Lott paced a 4-5-6 finish for the Bison in the 100 yard backstroke. Lott took fifth in 59.85 while MacIntyre and Washington finished in 1.03:43 and 1:11.04.

The men's 200 yard freestyle relay (Orellana, Allen, MacIntyre, Strbac) won gold after finishing in 1:28.21.

The women's squad saw two first-place finish from Nzingha Murphy. The senior won the 50 yard freestyle in 24:28 while teammate Uche Monu was fifth in 26.10. Murphy later took first in the 100 yard freestyle in 53.79. Rochelle Smith was sixth in the same event in 1:08.82.

Aminah Murphy won the 200 yard IM in 2:18.91 and was the runner up in the 100 yard butterfly in 1:03.07.

Monu took third in the 100 yard backstroke (1:06.76) and Edwards was the runner up in the 500 yard freestyle after finishing in 5:39.87.

The women's 200 yard freestyle relay team (Aminah Murphy, Monu, Edwards, Nzingha Murphy) won in 1:41.24.

The Bison swim teams return to action on Dec. 6 at the Siena/NJIT duel meet in Loudonville, New York.
