HU Posts Season Best Marks Against Monarchs
October 15, 2011 - Following their meet in Williamsburg on Friday night, the Howard Bison Swimmers traveled down 64 East to Old Dominion University to take-on the Monarchs for a Saturday morning clash with the Monarchs. ODU, competing in the Colonial Athletic Association, had too much firepower for the Bison to withstand. The women's team fell to the Lady Monarchs 126-61 while the ODU men defeated the HU men 142-50.
The two strongest races for the Bison came on relays. The men opened the meet with a season-best time in the 200 medley relay. Freshmen Ben Skelding (Palmdale, CA,) and Trent Popovich (Morro Bay, CA) teamed with sophomore Darell Hungerford (Clinton, MD) and junior Zadok Isaacs (Cantaro Village, Trinidad and Tobago) to post a time of 1:41.84, just .32 seconds from second place.
The women's team concluded their competition with a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Freshman Briana Dillon (Katy, TX,) sophomore Janai Ederaine (Corona, CA) and Ashley Douglas (Missouri City, TX,) and junior E'lan Brewer scored a 1:43.67.
Freshman Dexter Brown (Pearland, TX) also had two noteworthy swims. His 200 individual medley time of 2:06.40 as well as his leadoff leg in the 200 freestyle relay (23.05) were both career-bests for those disciplines. Hungerford notched the highest individual placing for the Bison. Continuing his successful weekend, the sophomore posted a 1:01.83 in his 100 breaststroke, good for third place.
Collectively, the Bison tallied 11 season-best swims.
After their Alumni Meet on Friday, October 21st, the Bison will be traveling to Lexington, VA to face VMI and North Carolina A&T on Saturday, October 29th. The meet will begin at 3PM.
