Hector Sets Record on Day Three of Patriot Invitational
November 19, 2011 - After the third day of action at the George Mason Patriot Invitational, the Howard Bison compiled numerous season and personal bests to their resumes, carved 18 new additions to the schools Top-10 performance list, and destroyed one school record. The three-day competition concluded on Saturday evening with both the Bison men and women's teams finishing eighth overall against a premier, East Coast-laden field.
The excitement on the day was sparked by freshman Miles Hector. Hector (Omaha, NE) was sensational in his execution of the 1650 freestyle. Already the University's record holder for the 1000 freestyle, Hector added a second record to his young career with final time of 16:52.41. Hector finished 17th overall for the competition, the third highest for any HU swimmer for the weekend.
Fellow freshman Dexter Brown (Pearland, TX) followed his terrific Friday showing with another superb performance on Saturday. Brown's preliminary round 200 breaststroke time of 2:16.31 put him in 22nd place and a spot in the evening rounds. The freshman was stronger during his evening race and his time of 2:15.40 not only cemented his place at 22nd, but etched his name into 6th all-time in HU history.
Zadok Isaacs (Cantaro Village, Trinidad and Tobago) had an outstanding showing in the 200 backstroke. The current HU record-holder in the event, Isaacs fought his way into 24th place after the preliminary rounds. At night, Isaacs moved up into 22nd place and scored a season-best time of 1:59.33. To close the evening, the junior teamed with Brown, sophomore Darell Hungerford (Clinton, MD) and freshman Ben Skelding (Palmdale, CA) to record a 13th place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Their time of 3:17.56 is the team's fastest of the 2011-2012 season.
On the women's side, sophomore Nandi Ross represented the Lady Bison during the evening session. Her 19th place finish in the 200 breaststroke was the highest for the women during the competition and her time of 2:47.09 was a new season-best mark.
The Lady Bison finalized the weekend meet with their highest finish in a relay, courtesy of the 400 freestyle relay. Freshman Briana Dillon (Katy, TX) joined sophomores Janai Ederaine (Corona, CA) and Ashley Douglas (Missouri City, TX) and junior E'lan Brewer for 12th place finish in a time of 3:43.94.
The Bison will compete next on Friday, December 2nd at 6PM when they renew their rivalry with Catholic University of America. That match-up will be followed by their second home meet of the season on Saturday, December 3rd against American University at 12PM.
