HU Swimmers Close Fall Season with Great Showing versus American

Fifteen hours after notching a win against Catholic, the Howard University swimming team was back in the pool against another DC rival.  Saturday afternoon, the Bison swimmers rekindled their battle with the American University Eagles in their second home meet of the season.  The Bison mustered six victories against the Eagles, but American was too much to handle.  The AU men defeated Howard 137-65 while the women's team fell to the Lady Eagles 117-75.

In opening and closing the competition, the women's team was dialed-in for their two relay victories.  In the 200 medley relay, freshmen Caleah Gregoire (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago) and Shaianne Johnson (Long Beach, CA) combined with sophomore Nandi Ross (Capital Heights, MD) and senior Lauren Anthony (Oakland, CA) to each earn their first victories of the season with a time of 2:14.06.  To close the afternoon, the 200 freestyle relay team of freshman Briana Dillon (Katy, TX,) sophomores Ashley Douglas (Missouri City, TX) and Janai Ederaine (Corona, CA) and junior E'lan Brewer (Lansing, MI) posted a winning time of 1:42.89.

Dillon tallied her sixth individual victory of the season in the 100 backstroke.  Her time of 1:01.01 was her fastest split of the year and strengthened her place as the third fastest Lady Bison in the school's history in that event.

The Bison men had three returning winners fresh from victory lane on Friday evening.  Junior Zadok Isaacs (Cantaro Village, Trinidad and Tobago) used his length to outtouch American in the 50 freestyle and won with a time of 22.30.  Freshman Miles Hector (Omaha, NE) won the 1000 freestyle for the fourth time this season, this time in convincing fashion with a time of 10:14.47.  Hector also solidified his place as the 2nd-fastest 500 freestyle swimmer in HU history with his second place finishing time of 4:53.11.

Fellow freshman Dexter Brown (Pearland, TX) won his third race in two days with a repeat victory in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:01.46.

The Bison will next compete over the winter break in Fort Myers, Florida when they face-off against the North Dakota Fighting Sioux on New Year's Day 2012.
