Howard Women, Men Have Strong Showing in GMU Meet

Fairfax, VA-April 2-The Howard University women's and men's track and field teams had an outstanding showing this past Saturday in the George Mason University Invitational.

            The women were led by standouts LaClaire Carter and Lauren McNary.  Carter captured the long with a jump of 6.02 meters while also finishing third in the 100 meters with a time of 11.81.  She was also a member of the 4X100 meter relay team that finished third.

            McNary captured the 400 meter run with a time of 54.26 while finishing second in the 200 meter run with a time of 24.91.

            Other individual performances included: Lillian Daniels, fourth in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:05.94; Indira Garcia, 5^th in the 1500-meter run at 4:55.12; Aisha Franklin, 5^th in the 5,000-meter run at 19:38.11; Alyssa Johnson, 6^th in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.55; Amanda Stevenson, 6^th in the 1500-meter run at 4:56.61; and Alicia Williams, 8^th in the 800-meter run at 2:18.84.

            The Bison men were led by Nicholas Wright who captured the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.77 and finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.93.  Wright also anchored the 4X400-meter relay team that finished second at 3:19.39.

            Jacoby Dubose also had a fine showing, finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.64 and running the first leg of the 4X100-meter relay team that came in second with a clocking of 42.61.

            Other notables included: David Wynn, second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.07; Dennis Washington, 3^rd in the 200-meter run at 22.48; Cordis Stanfield, 3^rd in the 800-meter run at 1:55.97; and Daniel Kinney, 4^th in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.91.

            The women and men travel to Clemson, SC to participate in the Clemson Invitational this coming Saturday.
