Howard Track Show Promise at First Indoor Meet of 2007

Fairfax, VA, January 6, 2007-The Howard University men's and women's track teams showed promise as they participated in the Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason University.

Despite running in its first meet of the 2007 Indoor Season, both the bison men and women showed that they were ready for another indoor season.  Sophomore Daniel Kinney was the top finisher on the men side, coming in second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.96.  Dante Buckner and Thurman Sanders placed fourth in the 400 meters and 800 meters respectively.  Buckner finished with a time of 51.58 while Sanders recorded a time of 2:01.11.

On the women side, freshman Landria Buckley finished first in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.87.  Junior Lauren McNary continued her dominance from a year ago as she finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.48.  The women's 4x400 relay consisting of Buckley, Alyssa Johnson, McNary and Violet King also finished third with a time of 3:55.91.

Both teams will hit the track next weekend, January 12-13, when they travel to Blacksburg, Va. to participate in the Virginia Tech Invitational.
