Kinney, Buckley Make Strong Showing At Penn Relays

Philadelphia, Pa. - Daniel Kinney and Landria Buckley each turned in quality performances at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field for the 114th running of the Penn Relays this past weekend.  One of the largest and oldest track and field events in the world, the Penn Relays.

A junior from Romulus, MI, Daniel Kinney finished 13th in the 400 meter hurdles and 20th in the 110m hurdles while running a 47.5 split on his leg of the 4X400 meter relay team.

"I was pleased with the overall performance of the team at the Penns," said Howard head coach Michael Merritt.  "Daniel ran pretty well against some of the best and held his own.  It is going to help a lot in the next three weeks as he prepares for the NCAAs."

Kinney, who has qualified for the 400 hurdles in the NCAA Regional Outdoor Championships, will also be looking to qualify in the 110 hurdles as well when he competes in the MEAC Outdoor Championships this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Morgan State University.

On the women's side, Landria Buckley also made her presence felt at the meet, turning in a 13.69 in the 100 meter hurdles, good for 15th place overall while also running the second leg of the Howard women's 4X400-meter relay team that turned in a 3:51.70, good for second place in their section.

"It was also a good outing for Landria," said Merritt.  "She should be right on schedule for the NCAAs."  Buckley has qualified for the NCAA Regionals in both the 100m and the 400 hurdles.
