Bison Take the Course at Maryland Invitational

LANDOVER, MD. - Tochi Odocha, Thurman Sanders and the rest Howard track and field team turned in solid performances at the Maryland Indoor Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.

Odocha was fifth in the 200m dash in 22.86 and 14th in the 60m dash after finishing in 7.14.

Sanders placed fifth in the 800m run (1:57.67) and Carnegie Tirado crossed the 60m hurdles line in 8.43, good enough for a fifth-place finish. Marcus Harrison (8.64) was not far behind with his seventh-place finish.

Benjamin Rosa had a pair of top-10 finishes in field events. The sophomore was fourth in the triple jump after leaping 13.97m (45'8") and sixth in the high jump after clearing 1.93m (6'3").

Stephen Bowe (52.34) and Brandon Hill (52.54) were ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 400m dash. The distance medley squad (Jerod Franklin, Tory McAlister, Richard Williams, Thurman Sanders) took fourth after crossing the line in 10:51.21 while the 4x400m relay team of DeAndre Henderson, Jordan Spry, Franklin and McAlister took seventh in 3:27.38.

The Bison grabbed 38.5 points for a seventh-place finish out of 19 teams.

The Lady Bison turned in a fourth-place finish in the team standings with 45.66 points. Ashley Hodges won gold in the 800m run in 2:17.31 and Brittany Stephens (1:00.77) brought home a sixth-place finish in the 400m dash.

Uniqua Taylor was seventh in the 200m dash (27.18) and TeaCarla Wade finished eighth in the 60m dash in 8.02.

Alexandria Lemonious (9.02) and Keisha Myrick (9.21) were sixth and 10th, respectively, in the 60m hurdles. The 4x400m relay squad of Zahra Thomas, Stephens, Landria Buckley and Jami Hardy won silver in 3:56.26 while the distance medley team (Hardy, Abigail Reid, Danielle Douglas, Hodges) took second in 12:30.86.

The Lady Bison also had solid outings in the field events. Dontranika Horton place fifth in the long jump after leaping 11.49m (37'7") and Alexandria McKee jumped 1.58m (5'2") for a fifth-place finish in the high jump.

Howard returns to action at the VT Hokie Invitational on Friday.
