NEWARK, N.J. - The Howard women's volleyball team was edged by NJIT 3-2 (26-30, 30-24, 30-25, 21-30, 15-9) and Providence 3-1 (30-23, 28-30, 30-21, 30-24) on the final day of the Halloween Invitational.

Janel James had a double-double of 13 kills and 19 digs in the to the Highlanders. Senior Morgan Maxwell added 14 kills and 15 digs. Setter Gazelle d'Artois added 42 assists and 10 digs and Elyssa Lee chipped in a team-high 27 digs. Monique McCoy rounded out the defensive effort for the Bison with 16 digs.

Katrina Hornstein led NJIT with a double-double of 18 kills and 13 digs. Sabrina Baby dug out a match-high 40 balls on the defensive end.

Two players paced Howard with double-doubles in the loss to the Friars. Elyssa Lee had a team 15 kills to go along with 12 digs and d'Artois chipped in 34 set-assists and 10 digs. McCoy added a team-high 21 digs.

Sarah Fleming paced Providence with 24 kills and 16 digs.

d'Artois was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts.

Howard will play in its final regular season match on Thursday, Nov. 1 when they travel to Delaware State for a MEAC contest beginning at 7pm.
