WASHINGTON, D.C. - Elyssa Lee had a match-high nine kills and Gazelle d'Artois added 10 digs, but it was not enough as American downed Howard 3-0 (30-10, 30-20, 30-22) in a non-conference volleyball decision Tuesday night at Bender Arena.

The Lady Bison (0-4) did a great job on the defensive end as sophomore Kimberly Watson finished with a match-high seven block-assists. Setter Morgan Maxwell added six block-assists and a match-high 19 assists while junior Janel James posted nine digs.

Howard held the Eagles to a .064 hitting percentage in the final game and .191 overall.

Julie Borecka, Claire Recht and Katerina Cinkova led American with seven kills. Recht added six block-assists on the defensive end.

HU returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 1 with a pair of non-conference matches against George Mason and Lehigh at the Patriot Invitational.
