WASHINGTON, D.C. - Despite winning the first game of the match, Howard was unable to hold off a powerful Morgan State charge as the Lady Bison fell for the second time this year to the Bears by a count of 3-1. MSU took the match (30-32, 30-26, 30-27, and 30-22) in just the third four-game match of the year for HU.

Howard (3-18, 2-3 MEAC) was unable to overcome 23 errors in the match, and hit just 15 percent (.147) overall to fall to their visitors from 30 miles away.

HU took the first game of the match behind strong play from junior Janel James and senior Morgan Maxwell. The Lady Bison led by as many as seven before the Bears rallied with a 12-5 run towards the end to tie things up at 26. A kill by James and several Morgan attack errors gave Howard a 29-26 advantage, but MSU rattled off three straight points to tie it up before a bad set by Morgan's Jentri Fullove and a kill by Maxwell gave the Bison the 32-30 game one victory.

The Lady Bears edged Howard in games two and three and hit a .245 in the game four victory. That decision was not as close as the previous contests as Morgan State took a 10-point lead on two separate occasions.

Maxwell paced Howard with a double-double of 16 kills and 10 digs. Janel James added a double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs. Libero Monique McCoy had a match-high 26 digs and Gazelle d'Artois chipped in with 44 set-assists and 12 digs.

Esther Johnson had 23 kills and 20 digs for Morgan State. Ivanti Bush finished with 22 kills and 14 digs and Jeniqua Morgan added double-digit kills with 15. Ashley Preston had a game-high 21 digs for the Bears.

The Lady Bison return to action tomorrow with a non-conference match against VCU in Richmond.
