VCU Defeats Howard in Three

RICHMOND, VA. - Ariel Newman had 12 kills to lead the Virginia Commomwealth (VCU) volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-24, 30-26, 30-25) non-conference win over Howard Wednesday night in Richmond.

Led by Newman, the Rams hit .242 as a team as they recorded 57 kills with only 27 hitting errors. The hitting percentage helped VCU overcome 21 service errors.   

The Lady Bison were led by senior Morgan Maxwell who had seven kills and eight digs. Janel James added five kills and three digs. Setter Gazelle d'Artois finished with 17 assists, five digs and a match-high two service aces.

The Rams improved to 5-13 with the win while Howard fell to 3-19 on the season.  

HU returns to action on Sunday with a conference matchup against Coppin State at 3pm in Baltimore.
