Boxscore

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A rally by the Howard volleyball team fell short in the third set as Loyola (Md.) hung on for the 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 27-25) victory Wednesday evening at Burr Gymnasium. The two squads tied things up at 25 before the Greyhounds took the final set, 27-25 to capture the match. Junior Gazelle d'Artois (Newhall, Calif./Hart H.S.) tallied a season-high 20 kills and classmate Nicole Brown (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly H.S.) recorded a match-high 14 digs.

A pair of kills by sophomore Tosin Elebute (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Middle Tennessee State) gave HU an 11-8 lead in the first set. The Lady Bison later capitalized on  three Loyola errors for a five-point advantage at 14-9.

The lead changed hands four times after that with neither team taking more than a two-point advantage. The Greyhounds wrapped up the first set on a Bison miscue and a kill by Kathryn Dircks.

The second set featured six tie scores, one coming late at 22 points. Loyola (Md.) scored two points before a ball-handling error by Aubrey Kirven closed the Bison within one point of the lead. A Karlee Woodward kill later gave the Greyhounds a slim 25-33 set win.

Howard faced a 12-9 deficit in the third set but kills by d'Artois and Elebute tied the score at 16, forcing a Loyola (Md.) timeout. d'Artois later added a pair of kills to give HU a 20-18 advantage.

An attack error by Janet Pressler put Howard up by three at 23-20. The Greyhounds, however, rattled off two kills and later tied it up at 23 on a Bison miscue. The two teams traded service errors before Nina Camaioni's kill sealed the set and match win for Loyola.

Camaioni paced the Greyhounds with 18 kills.

d'Artois hit a blistering .400 (20-2-45) as Howard hit a season-high .299 in the contest. The Bison held a 10-1 advantage in blocks while forcing 15 Loyola (Md.) errors.
