Howard Drops Road
Decision To Loyola Baltimore, MD—December 6—Shannon Carlisle came off the bench to score a career-high 24 points, but it was not enough as Howard dropped an 83-65 loss to Loyola in a women’s non-conference game at the Reitz Center. The Lady Bison (1-4) fell behind early and trailed, 46-24 at the half. The Hounds (3-2), who won their third straight, dominated the action early by shooting a sizzling 60 percent (21 of 35) from the field while limiting Howard to 35 percent (10 of 28) in the first 20 minutes.
The Lady Bison were able to play better in the second half, mostly
due to the sparkling play of Carlisle, who hit on 8 of 15 from the
field while also contributing four steals in just 22 minutes. It was the second straight game that the 5-4 sophomore from Indianapolis, IN has performed at a high level. In last Friday’s win over Lafayette, Carlisle came off the bench to score 9 points in the second overtime to give her team its first win of the season. Sophomore guard Christina Aden tied a season-high 13 points and senior guard Ebony Lacey contributed 11 in a losing cause. Loyola was paced by Jill Glessner, who led five players in double figures. Howard will try to get back in the winning column when it hosts the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference season home opener at Burr Gymnasium this Saturday at 4 p.m. GAME NOTES: Howard was again out-rebounded, this time by a 51-21 margin…the Lady Bison pressure defense forced 27 turnovers, but the Hounds recorded 24 assists on 35 baskets…Howard had a season-low 4 assists, but came up with 11 steals. |
