St. Peter's Uses Strong Second Half To Get Past Howard
Jersey City, NJ—Dec. 23--Kristen Hood scored a team-high 17 points and Khalisha Lewis recorded a double-double to help St. Peter’s get by Howard University, 75-67 in a non-conference women’s game at Yanitelli Center.
Hood tallied 11 of her points in the second half to help the Peahens (3-5) shoot 56 percent from the field after intermission. Lewis contributed by hitting on 4 of 7 from the field and grabbing 10 rebounds. St. Peter’s held a 44-24 advantage in the points-in-the-paint category.
The Lady Bison (3-6), who have played well in their non-conference games, were paced by sophomore guard Shannon Carlisle, who led all scorers with 19 to go along with 6 steals and junior forward Melloni Benson, who came off the bench to score 13 points in 14 minutes.
Howard was again able to stay in the game by forcing turnovers (29), but another poor second half shooting performance (28 percent on 11 of 38 shooting) was too much to overcome.
The Lady Bison are off until December 31 when they host Drexel University in a rare New Year’s Eve game at 2 p.m. in Burr Gymnasium.
