Howard Women Fall To FAMU On The Road Tallahassee, FL-January 23—Deidra Jones scored 19 points to lead a balanced attack as Florida A&M University held off Howard University, 75-67 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women’s game at Gaither Gymnasium. The Lady Rattlers (8-9 overall, 4-4 in the MEAC) jumped out to an early 11-0 and 17-3 lead before the Lady Bison (7-9 overall, 4-3 in the MEAC) settled down and closed the gap. But Jones, Ifeoma Onuku (16 points, 17 rebounds), Dawn Kindred (15) and QVaundra Curry provided the balance to offset the scoring of Howard senior guard Brittney James, who poured in a game-high 28 points. The game turned into a turnover fest as the two teams combined for 57 miscues. But the Lady Rattlers got the better of the statistics in rebounding where they held a 53-43 advantage. Sophomore guard Shannon Carlisle contributed 14 points and junior forward Melloni Benson added 10 in the loss for Howard, which has now dropped three of its last four. The Lady Bison will travel to Baltimore, MD on Saturday, January 28 to take on conference leader Coppin State at 5:30 p.m.
