Aden Scores Season High In Win Over
B-CC Daytona Beach, FL—January 21---Christina Aden scored a season-best 22 points to lead five players in double figures as Howard University rolled to an easy 99-78 win over Bethune-Cookman College in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women’s game at Moore Gymnasium. The 99 points was the most scored by the Lady Bison (7-8 overall, 4-2 in the MEAC) this season and more importantly, it snaps a two-game losing streak. Howard jumped out to a comfortable early lead and expanded the advantage to 63-39 at halftime. Aden, who was missed all of last season recovering from an
Achilles injury, has struggled most of the season, but found her
stroke from the outside and added 9 of 10 from the free throw line
for good measure. But Aden got plenty of support from junior forward Melloni Benson, who came off the bench to score 16 points in only 18 minutes, senior forward Shari Johnson, who tallied 12, freshman center Tamaya Daniels with 11 and junior guard Shannon Carlisle, who continued her brilliant all-around play with 10 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. All 13 players who saw action scored for the Lady Bison, who shot a season-best 56 percent from the field in the first half, recorded 24 assists on 36 baskets and scored 40 points off Lady Wildcats’ turnovers. Bethune-Cookman (3-11 overall, 2-5 in the MEAC) got a brilliant individual from All-MEAC selection, Katie Clark, who poured in a career-high 33 points on 10 of 14 shooting from the field and a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds from Keturah Newkirk. Howard will try to extend its win streak when it travels to Tallahassee, FL to take on Florida A&M University on Monday at 5:30 p.m. while B-CC hosts UMES on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
