Carlisle Leads Howard To Win Over North Carolina A&T Washington, DC-Feb. 5---Shannon Carlisle scored a game-high 27 points, including the go-ahead basket and an insurance free throw to lead Howard University to a 68-65 win over North Carolina A&T in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's game at Burr Gymnasium. The win was the third straight for the Lady Bison (4-17 overall, 4-7 in the MEAC). Howard had secured a 13-point lead on the all-around play of Carlisle, who tallied 13 points in the first half and created havoc in the early part of the second half until she went to the bench with her fourth foul. That is when the Lady Aggies (12-10 overall, 7-4 in the MEAC) put together a 23-4 run to take a six-point lead. The run was spurred by a combination of the scoring of Brittany James-Taylor and Ta"Wuana Cook who combined for 20 second half points and the 23 turnovers committed by Howard after the break. "Reyna (Gross) came into the game and she was passive with the ball," explained Howard Coach Cathy Parson. "The team started to play with no aggression and we started having turnovers left and right." The Lady Bison then got a boost from senior reserve forward Sequoya Moore who scored all 10 of her points in the second half, including two crucial baskets when it appeared NC A&T had control of the game. "Sequoya stepped up and made some big plays," said Parson. "When you get veteran players top step up in those situations, you usually have a chance to win. It could not have come at a better time for us." With the game now back in hand, Carlisle re-entered the game and made her presence immediately felt, scoring five of the team's last seven points. "Shannon had four fouls and I waited to the right time to get her in the game," said Parson. "She showed how valuable she is to this team." In addition to her 27 points, Carlisle grabbed 8 rebounds, handed out 6 assists and recorded 7 steals. North Carolina A&T was led by James with 16 points and Cook and Amber Bland, who each had 13.
