Howard Drops Season-Opener

Baton Rouge, LA-The Howard women's basketball team opened its 2006-07 campaign with a 78-97 loss to Virginia Tech at the Basketball Travelers Classic hosted by LSU.  This was the first of three games of the tournament.

Howard, (0-1), did not have a good shooting night making only 12 of 40 field goals in the first half and 17-49 overall for 33 percent.  The Lady Bison went into half-time down by 17 points, 49-32.

Shannon Carlisle picked up this season where she left off in 2005-2006 scoring a game high 29 points while dishing out five assists and six steals.  Christina Aden was the only other Lady Bison to score in double-figures with 19 points (4-of-6 from behind the arc).  Sequoya Moore led the team in rebounding with eight.

Nare Diawara led the way for Virginia Tech with 24 points (10-of-11 free-throws) and nine rebounds.

The Lady Bison will face host LSU tomorrow night at 7:15 pm (CST).

Game Notes: Howard had 20 points off to Va. Tech 13...Howard also led in 2^nd chance points, 17-13.
