Howard Falls to William and Mary

Williamsburg, VA, December 10-Shannon Carlisle scored a game-high 19 points and dished out three assists as Howard fell to William and Mary, 63-78 in a non-conference match-up in Kaplan Arena at William and Mary Hall.

William and Mary, (5-4), opened the game on a 9-2 run but Howard, (0-10), quickly rebounded, going on a 10-3 run over the next two minutes to tie the game at 12.  The Tribe picked up its offense late in the first half going on a 26-12 run to end the half up by 16, 38-24.

William and Mary continued its dominance in the second half taking its largest lead of 27, 61-34, by the 11 minute mark.  Howard would make a run late in the half to pull within 16, 76-60, but could not get over the hump, eventually falling by 15, 63-78.

Asha Santee was the only other Lady Bison to score in double-figures with 14.  Melloni Benson pulled in a team-high eight rebounds.

William and Mary had two players to record a double-double led by Devin James with 18 points-10 rebounds.  Kyra Kaylor scored 15 points and pulled in 10 rebounds for the Tribe.  Tiffany Benson led the Tribe in rebounding with a game-high 13 while Courtney Portell contributed 17 points in the victory.

Howard will close out 2006 on the road against #6 Ohio State on Sunday.  The Lady Bison will open 2007 at home  with a conference match-up versus Hampton University on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Howard shot 32 percent from the field and 62 percent from the charity stripe...William and Mary out-rebounded Howard by 20, 56-36.
