Second Half Run Causes Howard Boxscore Baton Rouge, LA-West Virginia used a 15-4 second half run to help them cruise past Howard, 61-84, at the Basketball Classic. West Virginia, (1-2), appeared to have control of the game early as they jumped up out to a 7-0 lead and went up by as much as eight before the Howard, (0-3), could get their offense going. Once Howard got going, they went on an 11-3 run of their own to tie the game at 16 with just over 12 minutes remaining in the first half. The teams went basket-for-basket before Howard went on another run to take a seven point advantage at the three minute mark, 37-30. West Virginia went on a 9-0 run going into the half down by two, 41-39. West Virginia continued its dominance in the second half going
up by as many as 13, 65-53, with a little over eight minutes
remaining. Howard offense was non-existence for the last five
minutes of the half as they made only three field goals. Shannon Carlisle was the only player to score in double-figures for the Lady Bison scoring a game-high 22 points with five rebounds. The next high scorers for Howard were Christina Aden and Lonice Kenley with eight each. West Virginia had five players to score in double-figures led by Chakhia Cole with 21. Olayinka Sanni (18), Ashley Powell (14), LaQuita Owens (13), and Sparkle Davis (11). The Mountaineers had two players to record double-digit rebounds as Sanni Davis pulled down 12 and 10 respectively. Howard will travel to South Orange, NJ to participate in the Seton Hall Classic this Friday and Saturday. The Lady Bison will face host Seton Hall at 6 p.m. on Friday. Game Notes: Howard was outscored in the paint 42-14...Shannon Carlisle was named to the Basketball Travelers All-Tournament Team.
