Turnovers Plague Howard Again In Loss To Delaware State

Washington, DC-February 10-Raquel Collier scored 13 of her game-high 19 points and Katreem Palmer added 12 of her 14 after intermission to lead Delaware State to a 68-55 win over Howard University in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's game at Burr Gymnasium.  The game was nationally televised game on ESPNU as part of the MEAC TV package.

The game featured more combined turnovers (50) than field goals (44), but the difference was that the Lady Hornets (12-11 overall, 7-5 in the MEAC) were able to convert the Lady Bison mistakes into 29 points.

"We knew coming in that they were a pressure team," said Howard Coach Cathy Parson.  "We knew that and were prepared prepared, but when your two point guards turn the ball over 14 times, it makes it difficult."

Collier did most of the damage with her medium range game while Palmer was effective around the basket.

Howard (4-18 overall, 4-8 in the MEAC) was able to stay close because of the its inside presence of Tamaya Daniels (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Jasmine Lipford (11 points, 10 rebounds), who both posted their first-ever career double doubles.

"Tamaya and Jasmine are both progressing," said Parson.  "It was a good performance for them, but they still have a long way to go."

Howard leading scorer Shannon Carlisle finished with 11 points but missed 20 of 23 shots and had 8 turnovers.  Sequoya Moore, who has played well of late, came off the bench to score 10 points and grab a career-high 8 rebounds.

"Shannon got off to a bad start," said Parson.  "When she doesn't start the game well, she has a tendency to press and make mistakes.  A lot of what we do, depends on her play."

She continued, "Sequoya is a senior and she has given us a big boost off the bench the past two games."

In addition to Collier and Palmer, Delaware State got 13 points from Selena Galloway and 10 from Jameka Smith.

NEXT UP:  Delaware State hosts the Lady Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday at 5:30 pm while Howard travels to Daytona Beach, FL to take on the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman College on Saturday, February 17 at 2 pm.
