NORFOLK, VA. - Shannon Carlisle hit a pivotal 3-pointer and a pair of free-throws to send the game to overtime, but it would not be enough as Norfolk State edged Howard, 94-88 in a MEAC women's basketball decision Monday night at Echols Hall.

Carlisle finished with 21 points to go along with eight rebounds and four assists. Tamaya Daniels chipped in her seventh double-double of the year, finishing with 29 points, 16 rebounds and a career-high eight blocks. Reyna Gross and Lonice Kenley added nine points each.

NSU, who picked up its first conference win with the victory, was paced by Danielle State's 23 points and 14 rebounds. Raychele Payne and Tashawn Higgins added 20 points each and Genor Dalton finished with 12. Ebony Gibbs chipped in 10.

Howard (2-18, 2-6 MEAC) trailed by as many as 15 points in the second half before Carlisle hit a clutch trey with 23 seconds remaining to tie things up at 75. The senior drained a pair of free-throws at :14 to give the Bison a two-point advantage, but Gibbs knocked down two from the charity stripe with five seconds left to make it 77-77 at the end of regulation.

The Spartans outscored the Bison 17-11 in the extra frame to seal the win.

HU returns to action this weekend with a pair of MEAC road matchups at Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State.
