Butler Leads Hampton To Win Over Howard

HAMPTON, VA. - Rachel Butler scored a high points and Quanneisha Perry added 14 off the bench to lead Hampton University to a 74-46 win over Howard University in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's game at the Convocation center.  It was the regular season finale for both teams as they head into the MEAC tournament,  March 10-15 in Raleigh, NC.

The Lady Pirates (17-12 overall, 10-6 in the MEAC) began to pull away near the end of the first when Stephanie James canned a three pointer to end the first half and give the Lady Pirates their biggest lead at 41-31.  Butler led the way with 11 points while James added 9.

Hampton opened the second half with a 15-5 run that opened a 56-36 lead at the 12:14 mark.  Perry did most of the damage around the basket, hitting on 7 of 8 from the field.  Howard aided the Lady Pirates' cause with 25 turnovers and shooting only 26 percent from the field (17 of 65).

Ashe Santee paced Howard with 15 points while Tamaya Daniels contributed 11 points and nine rebounds despite being saddled with fouls.

Butler finished with 10 rebounds to go along with her game-high 22 points.  Chinyere Ukoh recorded a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Howard (4-25 overall, 3-13 in the MEAC) awaits its seeding for the tournament.
