WASHINGTON, D.C. - Fairleigh Dickinson (FDU) shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the second half and outscored Howard 38-17 on its way to a 66-46 non-conference victory over the Lady Bison on Friday at Burr Gymnasium.

The Knights shot only 29 percent from the floor in the first half and trailed 29-28 at the intermission.   Jasmyra Saunders, who finished the game with 12 points, was 4-of-5 from the floor in the second period and scored 10 of her 12 points in the second stanza.

Shanay Freeman added 13 points and Jennifer Walkling scored 14 for FDU (4-8). Christy Altamirano led all scorers with a game-high 15 points. Howard (0-11) was led by senior Reyna Gross who scored 10 points.

"We missed a lot of shots and didn't take advantage of opportunities," said Head Coach Cathy Parson. "We forced 32 turnovers but didn't convert on the second chance points. We didn't connect on free throws either, offensively we really just struggled."

HU shot 9-of-22 (41%) from the charity stripe and connected on just 24% (16-of-66) of its field goals.

The two teams exchanged baskets early in the second half before the Knights jumped out to an 18-5 run with 16:55 left to play. Saunders scored six points during the run that gave FDU a 52-38 lead at 8:36 to play effectively put the game away.

The first half was a much different story as the Bison took an early 7-3 lead keyed by a three-point basket by Shannon Carlisle.

Fairleigh Dickinson took a three-point lead midway through the period after a jumper by Walkling put the Knights up 17-14.

The lead changed hands seven times that period and Carlisle gave the Lady Bison its final lead of the night when she made a jumper to put the Bison up by one at halftime.

Howard opens up conference play on Jan. 5 when it hosts Hampton in a 2 p.m. game at Burr Gym.
