DOVER, DEL. - Junior center Tamaya Daniels had a game-high 18 points off the bench as Delaware State (DSU) nipped Howard, 72-63 in a MEAC women's basketball decision Saturday evening in Dover, Del.

Howard falls to 2-20 (2-8 MEAC) with the loss while Delaware State improves to 12-12 (7-3 MEAC) with the win.

Senior guard/forward added 13 points and senior guard Reyna Gross chipped in eight points and a game-high nine assists. Shannon Carlisle had a game-high five steals on the defensive end.

Delaware State got 17 points from Katreem Palmer and 16 from Raquel Collier. Selena Galloway and Keyhana Wakefield added 14 and 10, respectively. Thea Littlepage pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

DSU opened the game on a 14-2 run before Howard tied things up at 24-24 with 6:49 left. Delaware State pushed its lead to five at 1:18 and went into the break with a 38-33 advantage.

Howard used an 8-2 run in the beginning of the second half to close within one point of the lead at 42-41 with 16:36 remaining. A jumper by Lonice Kenley at 12:16 gave the Bison a two-point advantage, but the Hornets responded with a 16-4 run over the next six minutes and took a double-digit lead at 61-51. Howard would get no closer than six points after that.

HU returns home on Feb. 16 to face Winston-Salem State in a non-conference matchup at 2 p.m.
