Tribe Cruises Past Howard In Bison Home Opener

WASHINGTON, D.C. - William and Mary hit 15 3-pointers en route to a 90-56 win over Howard in a non-conference women's basketball game at Burr Gymnasium. It was the home opener for the Lady Bison, who opened up its season with nine consecutive games on the road.

The Tribe (5-4) connected on eight trey's in the first half alone and took a 15-point advantage at the break after ending the period on a 9-1 run.

William & Mary shot 42% from 3-point range (8-19) and held a 31-22 advantage in rebounds. Courtney Portell led all scorers at the break with 15 points while Asha Santee paced Howard with a team-high 12.

The Tribe jumped out of the second half and outscored the Bison 27-14 in the first 10 minutes. William & Mary took its largest lead of the night at 4:07 when Robyn Barton hit a trey to put the Tride up by 39 at 86-47.

Portell finished with a game-high 24 points, including a 7-16 outing from downtown. Barton chipped in 11 and Tiffany Benson added 12 points and 18 rebounds. Kyra Kaylor contributed a double-double of 11 points and 18 rebounds.

Santee had 16 points for the Bison and Shannon Carlisle added 12. Tamaya Daniels pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds for HU.

Howard (0-10) will take a few weeks off before returning home on Dec. 28 for a non-conference matchup against the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson. Game time is slated for 7 pm.
