American Uses Long Ball to Down Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - American connected on 12 3-pointers and shot 44% from beyond to arc to down Howard, 77-50 in a women's basketball contest Wednesday evening at Bender arena.

The scored was knotted up early at 5-5 before a trey by freshman India Bradford (Washington, D.C./Archbishop Carroll) spurred a 10-4 run by the Bison.

 

Tamaya Daniels' (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) free-throw at 10:28 gave HU  a six-point lead, but fouls and turnovers slowly allowed the Eagles to chip at the lead.

Ebony Edwards and Talicia Jackson hit key baskets as American (3-0) went on a 17-0 run over the next six minutes. The Eagles took a 19-point lead, its largest of the night, on a trey by Nicole Ryan. 

Jackson and Michelle Kirk paced AU with 13 points.

Daniels had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Howard (0-2). Bradford and Lonice Kenley (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) added 10 points apiece with Bradford chipping in three steals on the defensive end. Zykia Brown (Riverdale, Md./Parkdale) led the Bison in assists with three.

HU has little time to rest, returning to action on Friday with a home contest against Central Michgan.
