WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Rene Rector nailed a three pointer with one second remaining to give Winston-Salem State a dramatic, 59-56 win over Howard in a non-conference women's game at the LJVM Annex.

The game was a seesaw battle although the Lady Bison trailed most of the game.  WSSU had taken a 56-54 lead on a short jump shot by Vontisha Woods with 45 seconds on the clock.  The Lady Bison countered with a basket by freshman Natalie Day that tied the score at 56-all with 23 seconds remaining.

The Lady Rams (3-20) brought the ball upcourt andwith time running down, Keoshia Worthy found Rector who buried the game winner.  WSSU was able to avenge a loss to Howard last month on the efforts of Woods, who tallied 14 of her team-high 18 points after intermission, and Rector who added eight of her 16.

Howard (4-19) rallied on the scoring of sophomore guard Zykia Brown, who poured in 15 of her game-high 20 points in the second stanza.  The reigning MEAC Player of the Week singlehandedly kept her team in the game with clutch shots down the stretch.

Although the Lady Bison again had problems getting consistent scoring from other players, it came down to free throw shooting where they made only 10-of-20, including four of 12 in the final 20 minutes.

The Lady Rams, conversely, made 14-of-15 for the game.  In addition to her 20 points, Brown added seven rebounds and three assists.  Jalisa Pullins contributed 10 and Day finished with nine.

WSSU was led by Woods' 18 points and 9 rebounds, Rector's 16 and Malisa Bumpus' 11 off the bench.
