WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard women's basketball team opens up play at the MEAC Tournament against Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday (March 10) at 1:30 p.m. in the Lawrence Joel Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C. All of Howard's games will be steamed online at www.hsrn.com.
The Lady Bison enter the tournament as the No. 8 seed and will face the ninth-seeded Wildcats in the opening round.
Howard finished the regular season with an 8-21 overall record and a 7-9 mark in the MEAC.
HU won the only meeting between the two teams 69-58 on Jan. 12 at Moore Gymnasium.
North Carolina A&T enters the tournament as the top seed and will face the winner of Howard and BCU on Wednesday (March 11).

Bethune-Cookman averages 64.1 points per game and Demetria
Frank is tops on the team with 14.8 ppg. Sarah Bolden adds 11.1
points per game and Bolden leads the team with 9.3 rebounds per
game.
BCU is coached by Vanessa Inge, who is in her first season with the Lady Wildcats. She has a 120-135 career record in nine years as a head coach.

Bison stand out above the pack and shoot the ball exceptionally

A problem Howard has had this year is getting to the
free-throw line. The Bison have committed 503 fouls this year
(compared to 467 by opponents), resulting in 609 free throw
attempts for Howard's opponents. Opponents are currently 416-609
(.683) from the stripe. Meanwhile, Howard has been to the line just
490 times, converting 301 of them (.614).
Daniels Named MEAC Defensive POTW Twice
Senior center Tamaya Daniels (Syracuse,
N.Y./Nottingham H.S.) was named the MEAC Player of the Week on Feb
2 after pulling down 15 rebounds and averaging three blocks. The
senior received the same honor on Feb. 23 after aiding HU to a 2-0
record that week.
Brown Earns MEAC, HSRN Honor
Sophomore guard Zykia Brown (Riverdale,
Md./Parkdale H.S.) was named the MEAC Player of the Week on Jan. 20
and Feb. 9. That same week, Brown garnered 1,113 votes and was
named the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) National Player of
the Week on Feb. 12.
Double Your Pleasure
Tamaya Daniels recorded her first double-double of
the season in the team's loss at American with 13 points and 10
rebounds. She later added two-more double-doubles this year (13
points, 11 rebounds at Monmouth and 12 points, 10 rebounds vs.
Morgan State).
Brown Named to
All-Tournament Team
Zykia Brown received All-Tournament recognition this
season. Brown was named to the Robert Morris Thanksgiving Classic
All-Tournament team on Nov. 30 following a strong weekend at the
tourney. The sophomore averaged 17 points, three assists, three
rebounds and two steals during the two-day event.
