Pirates Slip Past Bison

HAMPTON, VA. - Hampton slipped past Howard, 64-52 in the MEAC opener for both teams Saturday evening at the Convocation Center.

Senior Tamaya Daniels hit a free-throw to give the Bison an eight-point lead in the first half, its largest of the night. But a layup by Chinyere Ukoh spurred a 16-2 Pirate run over the next seven minutes and Hampton took a six-point lead at the half, 28-22.

Ukoh's layup at 14:56 put the Pirates up by 16. The Bison took advantage of several Hampton miscues and cut the lead to six with four minutes left.

Zykia Brown had a team-high 17 points for Howard. Daniels chipped in 10 points, two blocks and two steals.

Ukoh had 19 points and 22 rebounds for the Pirates and Jerika Jenkins added 16 points. Hampton held a 55-32 advantage in boards.

Howard is for a week and returns to action on Dec. 16 at St. John's (NY).
