Poor Shooting Dooms Howard in Loss to George Mason

Boxscore

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Howard shot just 30% (16-of-53) from the field in a 64-42 loss to George Mason Sunday afternoon in Burr Gymnasium. Tamaya Daniels had a team-high 13 points for the Bison and Zykia Brown added 12 in the loss.

It was a cold shooting first-half for both squads as the teams combined for only 12 field goals at the break. GMU made 6-of-22 from the field while HU went 6-of-25. Mason stepped it up in the second half, however, and shot a blistering 63% (15-of-24) while the Bison continued to struggle from the field.

"Our shots weren't falling today", said Howard coach Niki Reid Geckeler. "We had many opportunities to put the ball in the basket but we just weren't able to finish."

Rashauna Hobbs finished with a game-high 18 points for Mason, who picked up its first win of the season. Eugenia Broadus added a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds while Brittany Eley chipped in 10 points.

For the Bison, freshman Natalie Day contributed six points and three rebounds off the bench. Brown, Daniels and Lonice Kenley dished out two assists apiece.

Howard (0-9) returns to action on Dec. 29 with a road matchup against Monmouth. Game time against the Hawks is slated for 7pm.
