Bison Top Colgate; Win 2nd Straight Decision
HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Howard women's basketball team closed out its non-conference schedule with a 50-47 win over Colgate Tuesday evening at Cotterell Court.
Saadia Doyle pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds en route to her eighth double-double of the season. The freshman had 13 points and finished the game 5-of-9 from the field with two steals.
Zykia Brown finished with 17 points, the game-high, to go along with three rebounds and two assists.
Freshmen Tamoria Holmes (four points, three assists, two rebounds), Cheyenne Curley-Payne (four points, two assists), Nicole Deterville (four points, two rebounds) and Kara Smith (four points, four rebounds) all contributed off the bench as Howard led 18-13 in bench points.
The Bison offense got off to a quick start and Howard took a seven-point advantage at the break, 26-19.
Colgate (5-9), however, slowly gained momentum with an 8-2 run in the second half. The Raiders took its first lead of the game at 12:40 on a layup by Holly Havenstein, but the Bison quickly got things back in its favor by outscoring Colgate 6-2 over the next few minutes.
Howard (5-7) returns to Burr Gymnasium on Jan. 9 and open MEAC play when it hosts Morgan State at 2 p.m.
