WASHINGTON, D.C. - Junior guard Zykia Brown (Riverdale, Md./Parkdale H.S.) was named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference preseason second team, and Howard was selected to finish eighth in the preseason poll as voted upon by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.

Brown earned preseason second-team honors after averaging 17.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 assists per game last season. She ranked third in the league in scoring and in the top-10 in assists and steals per game.

Brown was joined on the second team by Deidra Jones (Florida A&M), Demetria Frank (Bethune-Cookman), Antonia Bennett (Florida A&M), Lamona Smally (North Carolina A&T), Laura Lewis (Hampton) and Kristina Rosario (Morgan State).

Defending league champion North Carolina A&T was selected first in the preseason poll with 16 first-place votes and 458 points. Maryland Eastern Shore was second followed by Coppin State, Delaware State, Morgan State, Hampton, Florida A&M, Howard, Bethune-Cookman, South Carolina State and Norfolk State.

The Lady Bison open their season at home on Nov. 13, hosting cross-town foe American University at 7 p.m.
