Doyle's 20 Points Not Enough In 56-46 Loss to Morgan State

BALTIMORE, MD – Saadia Doyle recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Howard University women's basketball team dropped a 56-46 decision at Morgan State (7-6) on Sat. Jan. 8.

Tamoria Holmes tallied 11 points and dished out a team-best six assists in 38 minutes of action. Jerelle Gorham chipped in with six points and pulled down five boards.

The Lady Bison won the battle of the boards as they pulled down 34 off the glass while Morgan State grabbed 29. Howard also converted 17 Lady Bear miscues into 14 points, while only committed 13 for the game.

The Lady Bears started the second half with a 10-4 run to give HU (4-12) its largest deficit of the game, 35-25, at the 15:05 mark. Morgan State pushed the spread to as many as 15 (46-31) off two pair at the line by Brittany Dodson. Ignited by a Cheyenne Curley-Payne three-pointer, Howard went on a 10-2 run over a four-plus span to cut it to 48-42 with 5:28 left in regulation. The Lady Bison would get no closer, however.

Two Lady Bears reached double-figures with Theresa Davis finishing with a team-best 15 points. Brittany Dodson had 12 points behind 4-of-6 shooting from the floor. Moneshia Davis chipped in with nine points. 

Morgan State shot 50 percent (19-for-38) from the field while holding Howard to just under 30 percent shooting (18-for-61). 

The Lady Bison are back in action on Mon. Jan. 10 when it travels to play Coppin State beginning at 5:30 p.m.
