The Lady Bison Edged in the Final Seconds to Akron in Preseason WNIT

AKRON, Ohio- The Lady Bison Basketball team was two points shy of defeating the Akron Zips at James A. Rhodes Arena, Friday night in the consolation round of the Preseason Women's NIT. The final score was 64-63.

Howard started off slow, allowing the Zips to begin the contest with a 12-1 run. The run was ended off a lay-up by junior, Kara Smith. HU rattled off 14 unanswered points to take a 36-31 advantage heading into intermission. Zykia Brown scored 10 of the Lady Bison's 14 points in that run.

Howard came out the lockeroom with high intensity, as they outscored Akron 10-5 in the opening minutes for a comfortable 46-36 cushion. The Zips responded with a 12-4 run on its own, causing six HU turnovers by the third media timeout. Tamoria Holmes ended Akron's run with a jumper at the 13:49 mark. The score was knotted at 60 with 2:20 left in regulation. From there, both teams battled until the clock hit zero. The Zips held their ground and edged the Lady Bison, 64-63.

Brown led HU with a game-high 21 points. Holmes contributed 19 points and eight steals. Saadia Doyle chipped in with 12 points and nine boards.

Akron's, Rachel Tecca lead her team with 17 points.

Howard will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 19, to face the University of Detroit for its last game in the Preseason WNIT. Tip-off is set for 5PM.
