Tamoria Holmes and Saadia Doyle Highlight MEAC First Team

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Tamoria Holmes and Saadia Doyle were named to the MEAC First Team as announced by the conference office on Sunday March 4. All awards are voted on by the conference's head women's basketball coaches and sports information directors.

Holmes, who emerged as one of the premier players in the MEAC this season, leads the conference in scoring with 18.5 points per game, and recently reached her 1,000th point against Howard's regular season finale at Delaware State. The Durham, N.C. native is tied for fifth place on the all-time steal list with 176 behind future MEAC Hall-of-Famer Alisha Hill.

Doyle, who was selected as MEAC Player of the Week twice this year, finished the regular season averaging 17.3 points per contest, and collected 13th double-doubles – ranking her 22nd in the nation. The Atlanta, Ga. native is now second on the HU all-time scoring list with 1,603 points – Alisha Hill holds the record with 2,179.

Howard and Florida A&M both finished the season with a 14-2 mark in MEAC play and will share the conference's runners-up trophy.  The Lady Bison won the tiebreaker over the Rattlers to secure the number two seed in the MEAC tournament, while FAMU earned the third seed.  HU will meet the winner of No. 7 South Carolina State vs. No. 10 Delaware State on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

The 2012 regular season champion, regular-season runners-up, first-team members and top honorees including Player, Rookie, Defensive and Coach of the Year selections, will be recognized in pre-game presentations prior to their first games of the 2012 MEAC Basketball Tournament. Tournament play tips-off March 5-10 at the Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
